I noticed today, when writing my snarky post about Twitter doin’ it wrong, that I haven’t blogged in a little while. Sorry about that. To anyone out there listening, my bad. I’ve just really been busy. It seems as though I’ve had a perfect storm of day job, hobby jobs and KidWonder stuff, while getting ready for a much needed family vacation in New Hampshire.
No, I lied. I’m actually spending all of my free time watching Battlestar Galactica, which is the greatest show since the West Wing, IMO. Just plain awesome. What else is new? Well, KidWonder is standing up and doing the surfer dude stance. I’m enjoying watching the Boston Celtics beating the Lakers in the finals (first trip since 1987, and don’t remind me, please). I was very disappointed watching Roger Federer get dominated by Rafael Nadal in the French Open final, just not enough match for me.
I’m also in the midst of watching The Color of Money 9-Ball challenge, played in Hong Kong in 1996, between Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland. Its a 9-ball match, winner break format, race to 120(!!). Here are some highlights. Thanks to Pat Fleming and Accu-Stats Video, I’m watching this colossal contest on DVD. At the moment, Earl is leading 73-68.
I know today was the big Steve Jobs keynote at WWDC, but I’m just not enough of a gadget geek to tune in. I know a bunch of people who watch these keynote speeches religiously, and I just don’t know why. Maybe I’ll understand it someday. I mean, Steve will get up and announce that Apple will be selling a new product, or an existing one, cheaper. I’ll look at it and if I like it, I’ll buy. Not sure what watching the keynote will do that watching the online demo won’t accomplish.
I got tickets to the U.S. Open tennis tournament at the National Tennis Center for the Monday of Labor Day weekend. MomWonder and I were furiously fighting the CAPTCHA demon on ticketmaster.com (evil, evil service) and at 9:01am, 1 minute after the tickets went on sale for public consumption, there were no tickets available for either Saturday or Sunday day session of the first weekend. Sounds fishy to me - not to mention the stellar seats I end up with for the Monday session. Row Z! I am not making this up. Row Z. The topmost row in the stadium. So the scam they are trying to get people to get in on is to get a super duper Amex card that allows you to buy tickets a week earlier than the muggles. But to get that, the Amex card you need to have has a $125 annual fee. Robbery!
People keep asking me if I know any great software engineers, because they are starting or growing their companies. I am flattered to be asked, it certainly reflects well that my judgment is trusted. Unfortunately, as so often happens, great engineers don’t need new jobs. I still wish all of these great young companies well.
Well, that’s about enough rambling for now. Good night internets. I leave you with this:
