I was greeted by several emails of the “[soon to be banned spammer] would like to be added as one of your friends!” variety today. What’s that, you say? You need to be more specific, and tell me which social network you’re talking about? OK: MySpace. Yes, yes, I should know by now that MySpace is spam-errific! However, what I didn’t realize until recently is that spammers are keying off of latest activity in some way to decide who to flood.
Its only circumstantial evidence at this point, but anytime I log into MySpace (which is really only to approve some lame friend request from someone who can’t manage to get on Facebook), for the next 2-3 days I am inundated with MySpace Friend Spam (Fram?).
I decided also to click through just to see what profile wanted me added as a “Friend”, which could be skewing this as well. Its the same person (set of photos), and sorry, she’s not my type.
However, when everything cools down and the appropriate parties are banned, I stop getting the e-mails.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThere are many social networking services operated like http://www.orkut.com, http://www.myspace.com, http://www.facebook.com etc. Orkut.com is being operated by http://www.google.com. MySpace is an online community that lets you meet your friends’ friends. These are popular sites especially among youths. We can judge the popularity of these sites by seeing their ranking in http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.iremovedthis.com Alexa. Orkut has been steadily rising on the Alexa charts but MySpace is still significantly bigger than Orkut.com.
I would normally NEVER allow such spam comments as “MySpace vs. Orkut” here, but I allowed it (albeit edited) for its irony, since they commented on a post about spam.
To http://www.SPAMMERfortunehotels.in: Don’t comment on my blog anymore. Thanks.
