i accidentally went over by $2.00 on my checking account.. i get a notice about it along with either a 32 or 35 dollar fee... in a few days i get a letter telling me there were extra charges because i did not come in within four or five days to take care of charges... i got the letter one day after the notice was to have been paid... so they added another fifty dollars to the charge.. i end up paying 85 dollars for a 2 dollar overdraft... we have a second account there with lots of money in it, and i asked for protection thru that account if i ever went over again...not possible... i was told i had to have a credit card issued by them to cover an over charge.. i do a little bitching all to no avail..so i accepted it... it came from office depot, for god's sake.. i did not want an office depot credit card..i paid off the first incident. something came up and i deliberatly did 50 dollars over and they put $100 on the home depot credit card... ask me if i am ticked off... i am changing banks to one that does not operate that way... i am moving to bank of america where we have several different accounts and will no longer be at the mercy of chase bank..and how for god's sake did home depot get in the picture..? no wonder the banks are failing.. what goes around does come around... the govenment is totally crooked to allow the banks to do this..do you think anyone will do anything to stop this.!!! don't hold your breath.. everyone gets their cut..the gov is probably getting kick back on it all.. nice little amount of change for them..and i have no choice whether to have a credit card or not have one..i have been told that it is illegal but i highly doubt it... any way the gov can screw us they will do it... this bail out is a total joke... the banks made 17billion two years ago on overdraft charges... when someone opens a bank and runs it the way it was twenty years ago, to the last one all accounts now with the theiving banks will leave and go to the new one. someone , somewhere can do this... i can't wait...

I am a Chase Personal Banker in Michigan, and I can safely tell you that accounts go inactive after 10 months, not 3. This is to prevent your money being classified as abandoned property and being eschewed to the state. One way to get an inactive account re-activated is to make a deposit or withdraw, but you can also call your personal banker and have him/her complete a "telephone log inactivity report" to get the account re-activated right over the phone.

Chase definitely optimizes every transaction to charge the maximum fees they can. If you make a mistake in electronic bill-payment and call them 10 minutes later, they can reverse it but it takes 7 days to go into effect. In the meantime, all fees apply and they cannot speed up the process. I accidently made a huge payment from the wrong account and got stung for over 100 in fees. They are fully within the letter of their rules, but they are also still scumbags who will have a special corner in hell reserved just for them.
