So we had a nice day today. We took a day trip from Florence today, about 50 miles south to Siena. It was a great
day for a stroll down small, cobblestoned streets in a town that does not allow cars in its town center. We had a nice time walking around, seeing the town square and cathedral, and taking some pictures.
We returned to Florence around 5:30 and walked east from the train station to the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s David. It really was worth the walk, although no pictures allowed, bummer.
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention a few fun facts from the last few days. There was:
- The blonde college girl who asked us directions to Ponte Vecchio, and afterwards blurted out “Isn’t this, like, the best city ever? Have a *gorgeous* day! Love is in the air!” Wow.
- The 3 guys who I saw while I was waiting on a free toilet in the men’s room, preening by the mirror with that “i just spent an hour on my hair, to make it look like i just fell out of bed look”. That was pretty par for the course, until the last of the 3 turned his back to the mirror, smacked his ass with both hands, looked at the jiggle, and he really looked like he felt good about it, so he walked upstairs. Wow. Wow.
Ah Italy, where the women are women, the men are women, and the men’s mothers are afraid.
