Oh Yeah

Not much to report for sights today, as it is laundry day. Tomorrow we’re taking the train to Venice for the weekend, so we’re tying up loose ends today. I figured it was as good a time as any to share some idiosynchracies of our week here. There was:

  • The guy in room 6 who saw us on our way out late for a snack and asked if we needed Aspirin… or Tylenol… or condoms!
  • People can park anywhere in Rome, except for the one poor couple with Maryland plates we saw getting a ticket. Where did they make a wrong turn to end up in Rome?
  • Speaking of parking anywhere, we saw a car back up to within 5 feet of the entrance to a bank, on the sidewalk of a city block! A quick getaway,
    perhaps?
  • If you are so inclined, from the “when in Rome” dept… walk right in front of someone on a crowded city street, and then stop abruptly. Try it, its cathartic!
  • Toilet on the way to St. Peter’s Basilica was made by “Dolemite”. Heh.
  • Baby on Board signs in Italian read: “Bimbo a bordo”
  • I watched a strange billiards game on TV. It was 3-cushion billiards, so no pockets and a white, red, and a yellow ball. And there were these small pegs standing upright in cross formation in the middle of the table, all white except for a single red peg in the middle. The aim of the game, apparently, was to hit your ball into another ball, and have that ball knock the pegs down, preferably the red one. The game was to 400 points, and appeared to have very arbitrary rules.
  • When we were waiting to watch Bobby at the theater, one of the previews was for a movie Death of a President, which hypothesises about George W. being assassinated! I guess its been around a while (the movie) but was the first time we’d seen the preview.

That’s about it for now. Talk soon.
