So today was another busy day in London, and we had beautiful weather.
We stopped in to visit the London Aquarium in the early afternoon, which was pretty cool. Its 2 full underground levels with massive tanks and a pathway that leads you through each body of water (Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, lakes, river, etc) and the types of marine life you might expect to be there. It was complete with a fish “petting” room.
From there we went to the “Dali Universe”, which is a museum dedicated to Dali which houses a ton of drawings, lithographs, sculptures, and funny quotes attributed to Dali. There was a very odd movie loop of Dali himself being played inside the museum on big screen monitors that was, well, very eery. Dali was a truly odd chap. There was a small Picasso wing attached to the museum, which was itself mostly drawings and lithographs.
We came back to the hotel as my friend Noah Balmer, a world traveller of his own, was in town for the day and we caught up for dinner. He has spent the last 3 months between New Zealand and Australia, and from London is going to France, Morocco, Italy, the British Isles, and Iceland before returning to New York. Phew. It was good catching up.
Then off to the London Eye! The London Eye is an enormous Ferris Wheel which sits on the South Bank of the river Thames, and you can get on it for one full turn of the wheel, which takes approximately 30 minutes. It rises to a height of more than 400 feet, which allows the viewer a pretty good look at the city. We sat in one of the capsules with 10 other people that literally took pictures the entire 30 minutes. One guy videotaped the entire ride. Ah, tourist attractions!
Well, we’re back at the Radisson, trying to catch up on Wimbledon. I could swear I saw Serena Williams walking down Tottenham Court Road while we were eating lunch today, but didn’t get enough of a look to confirm. She is out of the tournament, and Venus is still in, so she could very well have been roaming London. I guess we’ll never know…
That’s it for now. Will write soon.
