Today we went on a “Luxury Mini Coach Day Tour” which took us about 80 miles outside of London. We visited Old Sarum Castle, Salisbury (mainly Salisbury Cathedral), Stonehenge, and Avebury. The tour was called the “Stones & Bones” tour.
Old Sarum Castle is a group of stone formations from an old castle, cathedral, etc. Salisbury Cathedral has the tallest spire in Great Britain.
Stonehenge is a bunch of old rocks that people incessantly take pictures of. And Avebury is a nice town in the countryside, less touristy than Stonehenge, that has a group of stones that aren’t shaped or piled on top of each other, but are in a circle, etc, and believed to be placed around the same time as Stonehenge.
It was a great day out, hot but dry, and the English countryside is beautiful.
We saw Celtic burial mounds and a crop circle, although we couldn’t see it very well from the angle we had i.e. not from an airplane.
We got dropped off by the mini coach and hopped on the Underground. We took the Picadilly line to Cockfosters. Yes, Cockfosters. In order to make sure the e-mail is flagged by a bad content filter, the station name really, really is: Cockfosters. Ha ha ha ha!
Tomorrow is supposed to rain pretty much all day, so we’re looking to watch some movies, maybe a museum. We’ll see.
