So we put back on our tourist hats yesterday and visited the Tower of London. We took the Beefeater tour which was highly entertaining. There is apparently a lot of blood and gore in British history, especially where the Tower is concerned.
We left the Tower and took a catamaran tour of the river Thames. We passed under Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and saw lots of the sites by the river. We had an especially energetic tour guide on the boat, who was quite funny. Remarking on a building that was apparently designed to look like a computer, “if you see the resemblance to a computer there, you are on the same medication as the architect”. On the Tate Museum of Modern Art: “For those of you who don’t know modern art, think of 8 foot high stack of beer cans, dirty clothes, full ashtrays, and general filth. If you want to see that, you could come up to my flat, free of charge.” Maybe you had to be there… his comic delivery was good.
After the boat ride we passed by the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, and snapped some photos of that as well as the clock tower by Big Ben. Full day.
Today we woke up early and went to Wimbledon. We got in line at 7:30am, gates opened at 10:30am, and we managed to get grounds tickets. Sadly, because we didn’t pitch camp the night before we couldn’t get Centre Court seats. Walking around the grounds was fun, we sat in the stands for a while at a couple of matches, and walked around the Wimbledon village. It was a great experience. I will definitely never look at Wimbledon telecasts the same.
So Danielle is off looking to get her hair cut, and I’ll probably declare a siesta. Hope all is well with everyone, and the trip continues!
