TARDIS

So today was a scorcher in London, 30 degrees centigrade. I hid out in front of the fan most of the day, but did go out for most of the morning to the British Museum again. I’ve pretty much covered the whole of the museum, which is a pretty mean feat. Its got about 100 rooms, but each room is huge and there’s just so much to take in. It takes a good 20 minutes to digest each room, at the very least. I got some pictures this time.

I got out in the afternoon to play a couple of games of pool at the local pub. British 8-ball, in addition to being different in terms of the size ratios of the balls to the table and pockets, has some quirks to it, namely if you scratch your opponent gets 2 turns at the table. This is pretty deadly and my poor opponents today really couldn’t win.

I bet you’re wondering about the title of this e-mail. Well, I got back from playing pool, turned on BBC-One, and what was on? Doctor Who! Not a repeat, but a new season. Christopher Eccleston is the 9th incarnation of the Doctor, and this episode was the last of the season, so I got to see (in addition to our old friends the Daleks) a re-incarnation of the Time Lord. The Parting of the Ways was the show title.

If none of the above rings a bell, you have to be joking. Doctor Who? Time Lord? The TARDIS? The K-9 unit? The Master? The Daleks? You really missed out if you never saw the show. I read up on some Doctor Who trivia and the show was rated 3rd in the list of the top 100 Greatest British Television Programmes of the 20th century, and the word dalek was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in the 1960’s. Very cool.

Anyhow, this should be my last e-mail as a solo traveller. Danielle arrives early tomorrow morning and from that point on, double the fun. Double the adventure. Probably half the e-mails. :)
